Controller (Full-time), Bethany Location
Scott State Bank is seeking a highly skilled and detailed-oriented Controller to oversee the Bank’s financial records, reports, and accounting system and to supervise various management and accounting duties to achieve the Bank’s goals and objectives. The role formulates and administers approved accounting practices throughout the organization to ensure the financial operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the bank and provide reliable information necessary to control operations. The Controller will assist the CEO and other personnel with the bank’s strategic functions, and provide support for managing liquidity, ALCO, the annual budget process, and monthly forecasting.
Job Description:
- Actively participate in the Bank’s asset/liability management function to review conditions and assist in developing long-range strategies.
- Prepare/oversees the preparation of financial statements in accordance with general accounting principles as established by the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
- Assist in preparation and development of the Bank’s annual budget.
- Adhere to budget parameters and assist in monitoring the overall Bank budget to actual variances.
- Assist with continuous improvement of the Bank’s financial information system and ancillary systems.
- Oversee account payable functions and monitor all accounts payable for accuracy of general ledger postings and timely payments.
- Review and approve bank expenses as necessary.
- Review month-end closing adjustments, posting and reconciling entries.
- Manage and complete/oversee completion of vendor reviews of critical vendors.
- Serve as project manager for projects/programs to meet corporate goals and objectives.
- Provide information for and/or prepare for tax forms as necessary and work with Bank’s accounting firm on tax schedules, depreciation schedules, etc.
- Maintain investment, prepaid, accrual and fixed asset accounting.
- Maintain and prepare Call Report.
- Review daily General Ledger (GL) balancing, GL controls and recurring GL reporting.
- Maintain the General Ledger Chart of Accounts and set up new GL accounts when necessary, according to policy.
- Maintain year-end checklist and work with Operations Manager to complete year-end reporting.
- Prepare board related reports as necessary.
- Review, allocate and maintain insurance portfolio.
- Gathers or creates reports and analyzes financial related information for financial forecasts, budgets, month-end close and internal/external exams or audits.
- Prepare requested documentation and work with auditors and examiners during the audit and exam processes.
- Maintain and monitor policy review checklist and dissemination.
- Reconcile and/or review reconciliations of various company accounts.
- Perform ACH credit analysis reporting.
- Oversee/Review ACH annual documentation with originators.
- Complete NACHA website filings.
- Request and review engagement letters for Auditors as directed by the Audit Committee.
- Perform securities balancing
- Perform assessments and reports of RECON transactions and Assist operations as necessary.
- Perform SOD report annually.
- Perform, review and analyze all reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
- Complete year-end review of GL accounts.
- Prepares various internal reports, i.e., rate sensitivity analysis, spread analysis, key ratios reports, comparative balance sheets and income statements, etc.
- Create recurring and ad-hoc management/regulatory reports as necessary.
- Participate in wire transfer process as necessary.
- Cooperate with, participate in, and support the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices including Bank Secrecy and Privacy, in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness; and the Bank’s compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Applicants should have the following skills, qualities and experience:
- At least five years of work-related experience (preferred)
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in bank accounting and bank financial analysis and reporting.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or business-related field (preferred)

This role is pivotal in providing exceptional customer service while managing a diverse range of retail banking services such as teller responsibilities, opening consumer and non-consumer accounts, balancing accounts and maintenance.
The ideal candidate will possess strong financial skills, a deep understanding of customer relationship management, and the ability to troubleshoot effectively.
